Truck: the Oxford contingent

Oxford filmmaker extraordinaire and Videosyncratic supremo Jon Spira has whipped together an excellent ten-minute highlights package of the best Oxford bands playing at this year’s Truck Festival. It features The Candyskins, Dive Dive, Stornoway, Alphabet Backwards, From Light To Sound, Supergrass and loads more.

Stay tuned for more news on Jon’s feature-length documentary about Oxford music, Anyone Can Play Guitar, which is due for release at the end of 2009.

its a great little video. looking forward to the rest. please dont ruin it by adding dial b for boringstein though. oxford cant possibly take another dump on itself can it!!??

  • johnny moto

Jon’s made it look better than it was
i didn’t expect to be in the film with my incisive comments loll!

  • Joe

    I think it’s missing something… Dial F For Frankenstein.

  • http://www.myspace.com/dialfforfrankenstein Dial F

Oh – Joe’s back. So it is possible to type from a straight jacket. Life is much nicer if you don’t constantly make enemies, Joe. Mind you – if we were as old and unsuccessful as you we’d probably be pretty bitter too.

Nice film tho – we had a great time at Truck too!

  • Joe

I love the little drop of rain on the camera during Stars Of Truck & Stage which creates an interesting effect for a moment with the lights. Shame I missed this Truck.

  • Joe

“Oh – Joe’s back. So it is possible to type from a straight jacket. ”

Sorry to disappoint you but the first comment by “Joe” wasn’t me, neither are several of the comments by Joe. You’ve been had.

The second and third comments were by me though.

    Cheers,

    Joe C.

and yes, it is possible to type from a straight jacket, I use my nose.

Thanks for the advice. Here’s some for you – gain a better understanding of situations before you get involved in them and start questioning whether you are right about something or not. You might just find that things aren’t quite as other people would have you believe. Enough said I think.

  • Jay (Regardless of what band im in)

Will the real nutter please stand up haha

(this is what fecks me off all this crap yet in our recent review were the people who ‘spout shit on forums’ when all ive ever done is be drawn into 1 (all be it rather big) argument)

Dial F be thankful someones slagging you off its better than being ignored and it jsut highlights jealousy…if contrversy and backlash be the measure of success someones forgott to send me my fecking pay cheque lol.

  • johnny moto

whoever it is leave dial f and the rest of us alone.
if you wanna fight go and join the army, if you got the bottle?

this is thread about jons video i will ask colin to remove all trolling activities
    we dont need it.

  • Jay (Regardless of what band im in)

By the way im gonna stick my neck on the line and say i think (although i dont agree with many of them especially the Scarletts hate cus there fecking good) the guys totally justified to say his opinion isnt he?
hes not being rude, Oxbands and all the others that make a massive deal can i suggest dont have a ‘leave comments’section or maybe change it to ‘leave a nice are kissing comment cus we all get a bit nancy if someone dosent like who we like’

Again i dont agree with most of what he says (never heard Dial F so i have no opinion but i honestly wouldnt be upset if he said the Rivals were shit…which im sure he will next time a review is up, im actually a bit pissed off he hasnt already maybe we need to play Truck to be on his radar i honestly dunno?

  • jamess

*on subject* – really liked the vid, jon!

*off subject* – despite the numerous “joe’s” on here, it’s realy easy to distinguish which one’s which, due to grammar, literary style etc.
Joe Chapman, who’s very opinionated about all matters political and will happily argue to the grave and beyond about such matters, doesn’t slag other bands off, so there’s no point in assuming it’s him. Pick a fight with the the other , um, er, joe!

  • http://www.myspace.com/dialfforfrankenstein Dial F

Sorry Joe. Take it all back – although still quite like the straight jacket bit …!!!

  • Joe

Fortunately I found it amusing as well, if I actually had a problem I might not though, comments like that have been known to tip people right over the edge, by that I mean the worst.

Anyway, I’m happy ‘cos I just got my Audio-Technica AT-PL120 and a brand new copy of The Velvet Underground & Nico on 180 gram virgin vinyl which cost me £7. Beautiful.

  • jamess

now you’re just showing off…..i’m only jealous cos my old garrard with paralever arm has just died, and so i can’t play anything of the vast acres of vinyl i have.
    reduced to nu-skool cd’s, dammit.
methinks an SL1200 is the way to go – hardcore – you can smack people over the head at polish weddings and they still work!

  • Joe

Puts on Mr. Bean/John Major/Kenny Everett DIY character voice.

Very nice. I had my eye on an SL1200 but the AT-PL120 seems to be a more affordable copy and the advice was that the AT-PL120 is a good alternative but at about £100 cheaper in price.

Like an evangelist I want to share the love with you all, whether you want it or not!

So er… Truck. Yes from the video it looks like it was a year not to be missed, which I managed to miss. Looks like everyone enjoyed themselves and not at all like Glastonbury which had too many vacuous idiots around. So yeah, you’ve got to hand it to the Truck organisers and people working with them as it looks like their efforts have paid off (although I’m not assuming that it’s paid off financially!).

  • http://www.myspace.com/thescholarsuk Tim Mobbs

I really miss Truck already. Can’t believe it was only my first one, I’ve been missing out all these years! Hope we get asked to play next year as well.

Oh, and Dial F were/are cracking. You leave those lovable scamps alone! Although I do have to agree with the arguments against censorship, everyone’s entitled to their own opinions and whatnot.
