Mark Crozer, of International Jetsetters and Jesus And Mary Chain, will from 11 September be running regular Saturday morning rock school sessions at Rotator Studios, Magdalen Road, Oxford. These will give children aged 8-13(ish) the opportunity to play in bands together, and to receive tuition from experienced rock musicians. Each session will last three hours and will be divided into modules that will include songwriting, jamming and instrument tuition.
There will also be regular opportunities to learn about different aspects of the music industry (such as making demos, touring with a band, making music videos, working for a record label, releasing a record, playing at festivals) from some very experienced guest tutors.
Sessions will also feature regular guest performers from the local music scene, who will play a short set and answer questions about their experiences in the music industry.
Rotator has three studios, each equipped with drum kit, bass/guitar amplifiers and vocal PA. The volume will be kept low, so everybody can still talk to each other! There will be a maximum of 15 children enrolled in each session, and three tutors – one for each studio – so kids will only ever be working in a small group. All of the tutors are CRB checked, are both experienced musicians and are experienced in working with children.
The sessions will run from 9.00 am to 12.00 pm on Saturday mornings. The cost will be £15 per session.
