Bloody hellfire, you wait for ages and then… well, one new Radiohead album comes out all at once. Nobody seemed to be expecting it, or knew it was about to be released, but it was announced within the last couple of days that The King of Limbs will be released on Saturday 19 February, and available in a variety of formats.
The digital release – retailing at £6 for MP3 or £9 for WAV – can be purchased right now and downloaded from Saturday onwards. The packaging fetishists amongst us will, however, be more interested in the ‘Newspaper Album’ edition, also purchasable now, but not shipping until May. Similarly to what Radiohead did for In Rainbows with its ‘Discbox’ edition, they’re pulling out all of the stops with packaging. The special edition takes the form of two clear vinyl 10″ records, a CD, and a panoply of artwork fragments, all held in a ‘purpose-built record sleeve’. La, di, and indeed da. Including shipping, you can getcha ‘Newspaper Album’ for £30 (including free MP3 download) or £33 (including free WAV download).
What’s the album actually going to be like? Well, we’ll see. Probably quite good. Find out for yourself.
