Oxford Improvisers on BBC Radio Oxford

Oxford Improvisers cohorts Pat Thomas and Dom Lash will be featured and interviewed this Tuesday (22 February) on BBC Radio Oxford. The Jo In The Afternoon programme, which airs from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm, will cover Thomas’ story and involvement in music, with a focus on his improvisational and compositional work.

If that whets your appetite for some live music, that evening will see a special event at The Old Bookbinders on Oxford’s Green Street. The launch concert for Four Compositions For Orchestra, a CD by Pat Thomas with the Oxford Improvisers Orchestra, will see live performances from Thomas and Lash as well as Jon Seagroatt, Trevor Taylor, John Russell and Stefan Keune. Pat Thomas will be performing, amongst other things, John Zorn’s ‘Cobra’.

Thomas & Lash are both great musicians, and you’ll find that in their sphere they’re hugely respected outside the county. I’m still hoping for an Ox Improv Nutshaft cover one day. Check out an OI gig sometime, you might like it; and even if you hate it, it might be something new to hate!

Having said that, I’ve always felt that OI logo was bloody rubbish!
