We got hacked and lost some stuff

Friday 18 March was a dark, frustrating day for MusicInOxford.co.uk. We got hacked by some unspecified nasty piece of work (or automated robot, or something) and everything in the site’s database was trashed in an instant. What’s the point in that, eh?

You can’t keep a good thing down, though, and the site has been rebuilt and relaunched almost like new – specifically, it’s like new if today was Sunday 13 March, because that’s the date of the backup from which the website was restored. Unfortunately, this means that any news, posts, comments or gigs in the calendar that were added from that date onwards have been lost.

Bits and pieces will be added back to the site if possible – so if you commented or added a gig in the past few days, and have a kind heart, do it again! If you spot anything that’s acting strangely, or that is missing, please let us know. It’s been painful putting everything back together, and there’s a chance that some things got missed…

Sorry for the break in service. Glad to be back.

That’s infuriating. I’m glad you’re back up and running. Getting hacked is a terrible thing, and a big fear of mine. Well done for getting back online quickly!

Thanks… the important lesson to learn: don’t forget to keep backups!

Pretty difficult to say, without a whole load of work looking through logs and so on. Probably not worth it – I think it was some kind of automated site takedown by some nefarious types. Either that, or a band you gave a bad review to getting their own back 😀
