Summer Fayre poster

Oxford Summer Fayre, South Park, Oxford – 9, 10, 11 September

The first Oxford Summer Fayre takes place on Friday 9 September, Saturday 10 September and Sunday 11 September in Oxford’s South Park. It’s a free three-day music festival run by Gecko Events, who have previously run similar shindigs in the twin glorytowns of Milton Keynes and Bedford.

As well as the festival essential – a bar – there will be a market area set up, as well as a couple of stages hosting all manner of music, both local and non-local. The full line-up is still being assembled, but so far the weekend will see performances from Dead Jerichos, Spring Offensive, Minor Coles, Deer Chicago, Adam Barnes, Charly Coombes & The New Breed, The Scholars, Matt Winkworth, Phantom Theory, Gunning For Tamar and… phew… many more.

Band-type stages are being curated by the Jericho Tavern and Jack FM, and there will also be dance/club spaces run by Ultra Vegas and Simple Productions – the latter including sets by Taylormade, Jason Jay, Bruce B, Jon Chase, Jamie Conway and more.

There will also be a headline set by Europe’s premier Abba tribute act, Abba Gold. We’ll say nothing more about that. The aforementioned bar will help with the enjoyment of it, possibly.

Keep an eye on the event’s Facebook page for updates on the line-up, as well as more information. There’s also the official website for Summer Fayre events, which includes some delightful animated butterflies.

That seems a very confused line up indeed.

This would look failry decent if it wasnt for the tribute headline acts (which instantly kills this events credibility….shame)

Having the tribute acts topping the bill – on the bill at all – is just a fucking joke. What an insult to the other bands.

  • Simon Minter

It could be good though if the tribute acts get people in to the event, and they then get exposed to the ‘proper’ bands that they might not have known about before…?

  • Phill

Stop your moaning, it’s free for fucks sake. And like simon said, the bands on before the tribute acts will probably play to a much larger audience than they would have done if it was just local bands

  • Big Tim

And you all make it sound like watching a tribute act is equivalent to having someone shit in your mouth. I’ve seen and enjoyed plenty of good tribute acts. Sure, an Abba tribute act might not be my cup of tea, but lots of them are really good and genuinely worth watching. Just go and see Crysis’s Lamb of God tribute show for example… :)

Its the difference between watching a stand up comedian and watching an impressionist.

Alan Carr vs Rory Bremen ennit

  • Big Tim

What, Rory Bremner, the highly respected comedian and political satirist in his own right who happens to use impressions as part of his act?

    Poor choice of analagy.

And I’d take Rory Bremner over Alan Carr any day of the week.

  • SpikyMikey

And I’d take an Abba tribute band over a lot of the dreary `original’ shite that passes for new music any day.

  • Leesmilex

and i’d take a shit in the mouth over abba in any shape or form.
yeah that analogy does not really work as impressionists don’t really do impersonations of comedians’ routines particularly
(the old tommy cooper impression being a notable exception)
