Contrary to previously-reported news – which did, to be fair, come from Truck Store itself – the Cowley Road record shop is no longer moving to Gloucester Green in Oxford centre.
A post on the Truck Store Facebook page today stated:
“Ok, so some explanation needed! It’s been something of a rollercoaster few weeks here at Truck Store with lots of statements and press going out giving conflicting messages about the future of the store. So here’s the story about what’s gone down… we had a deal 99% settled for a store in Gloucester Green in mid-September, and prematurely announced the move from Cowley Road – but that deal fell through. Bad move! Another company were set to take over the lease on 101 Cowley Road and we were looking at this weekend as the last weekend trading on Cowley Road. So we’ve had a closing down sale, already had one closing down party and have been running stock low… Until today! We’ve now found out that we are able to stay at 101 Cowley Road for the next couple of months at least and so are pleased to announce we’re no longer closing down! However we have booked both the bands and the beer so fully intend to have a ‘NOT Closing Down’ party this weekend! Crazy times! We hope you’ll join us as we host 2 bands who are new to Truck Store: The Cellar Family and Kill Murray as well as local heroes Alphabet Backwards and Truck’s own Dreaming Spires! It’s also a great chance to catch Little Fish who have just released a wonderful new single! We’re also being invaded by the Ley-Lines Festival at some point during Saturday so you know Cowley Road is abso-bloody-lutely the place to be this weekend!
“The schedule of music in store today is as follows:
15:00 Alphabet Backwards
16:00 Cellar Family
17:00 Cooling Pearls
18:00 Dog Is Dead
19:00 Little Fish
“Tomorrow (Sunday) will see a free instore show by Kill Murray at 4pm.
“Watch out for extra impromptu performances too – and remember, we have delicious Cotswold Lager and Cider on tap all weekend! You can always order in G&Ds coffee and ice-cream too at Truck Store.
“And thanks for the continued support for your local independent record store and community music hub – now open for your Christmas shopping…”
