Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy in Oxford on Friday 4 May

In something of a minor gig-arranging coup, PinDrop Performances and TMD Music have just announced that on Friday 4 May they’ll present Glasgow nu-folkies Trembling Bells at the Bullingdon in Oxford, as part of a tour in support of their forthcoming album The Marble Downs. If you know anything about this album you’ll have heard that it’s a collaboration between Trembling Bells and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy.

Extra excitement comes from the news that Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy will be tagging along for the tour, meaning that the singer/songwriter (also known as Will Oldham) will be playing at the Bullingdon along with Trembling Bells. Oldham first popped up in the early nineties with the fantastic Palace Brothers, before releasing around twenty albums’ worth of material under that name as well as Palace Music, Will Oldham and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. He’s also appeared in several feature films including Julien Donkey-Boy, Junebug and, er, Jackass 3D. Most excitingly, he was also part of R Kelly’s insane and brilliant Trapped In The Closet series. Oh, and he also took the photograph that’s on the front cover of Slint’s revolutionary Spiderland album.

Quite the renaissance man, then, and this promises to be quite a special gig. The organisers have asked that it be known that Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy won’t be performing any of his older work – the gig will focus on his collaboration with Trembling Bells – but nonetheless, this should be a gem of a show.

Tickets will be on sale imminently. Anybody on the PinDrop Performances mailing list (which can be joined by sending a message to pindrop.performances@gmail.com) will be the first to know when they’re available.
