After helping to spread the punk word – for better or worse, who knows – Malcolm McLaren created and managed Bow Wow Wow in the early 1980s. They typified a sound that was rather popular at the time, and still influences modern indie bands to this day; a combination of pop sensibilities and African-influenced rhythms and energy.
As McLaren was involved, the band bumped into controversy rather often (check out the Wikipedia page for more details), but in spite of this they still banged out a pretty feisty set of hits. Here’s them performing ‘Wild In The Country’ on Top Of The Pops in 1982:
