Coo Presents… gigs in March and April

Oxford’s tireless Coo Promotions outfit have been putting on gigs for a long time now and, well, it doesn’t look like they’re about to slow the pace. Here are details of Coo Presents shows that are so far lined up for March and April.

2 March:
Smilex / The Cellar Family / Deer Chicago
(8.00 pm-midnight, The Jericho, Oxford)

Smilex’s tenth anniversary show, so expect a decade’s worth of filth and fury within the space of a single set. Widely-heralded local support in the form of The Cellar Family and Deer Chicago, and there’s an aftershow party featuring DJ Theoretical and Half Decent. Tickets £5 from here.

7 March:
Ellen & The Escapades / ToLiesel / Sam Lewis
(8.00 pm-11.00 pm, The Wheatsheaf, Oxford)

Folk-rockers EATE are the winners of last year’s Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition and have previously supported Josh T. Pearson and Paolo Nutini. Sam Lewis is hot off tours with KT Tunstall and Lamb, and Oxford’s ToLiesel bring the Americana. Tickets £6 from here.

8 March:
Piney Gir / Dennis Hopper Choppers / Oly Ralfe / Richard Warren
(8.00 pm-11.00 pm, The Jericho, Oxford)

Honorary Oxfordite Piney Gir has a lot of friends ’round these parts, and her cheeky country-tinged pop act will be supported by the ‘Western Punk’ of London’s Dennis Hopper Choppers and the folkish Oly Ralfe and Richard Warren. Tickets £6 from here.

13 April:
The Long Insiders
(8.00 pm-11.00 pm, The Jericho, Oxford)

This is the launch gig for The Long Insiders’ new album The Sound Of Cat Gut & Engine Oil. “Full-throttle hep”, it says here. Support acts to be confirmed! Tickets £6 from here.

14 April:
Christiaan Webb & The Sweet Lords / The Dreaming Spires / Joshua Caole
(8.00 pm-11.00 pm, The Jericho, Oxford)

Jimmy Webb’s son, and one of The Webb Brothers. Webb Webb Webb. This is the Oxford leg of Christiaan Webb’s tour in support of a new solo album, A Man Possessed. Oxford’s Dreaming Spires shine a little West Coast sunshine on proceedings, and Joshua Caole is a melodic banjo-slinger. Tickets £6 from here.

21 April:
The Miserable Rich / Duotone / The Cooling Pearls
(8.00 pm-11.00 pm, The Jericho, Oxford)

Brighton’s The Miserable Rich do a sullen blend of indie, folk and electronica. The support here is Oxford-tastic; Barney Morse-Brown’s fantastic looped guitar/cello project Duotone, and quirky folk from The Cooling Pearls. Tickets £7 from here.

29 April:
Karima Francis
(8.00 pm-11.00 pm, The Jericho, Oxford)

Karima Francis is a Blackpool-born singer-songwriter with a heckuva voice that’s been compared to both Joan Armatrading and Tracy Chapman. Tickets £7 from here.
