Oxjam Oxford Takeover is part of Oxfam’s month-long music festival Oxjam. All proceeds from Oxjam contribute to Oxfam’s work fighting poverty all over the world. The Oxjam Oxford Takeover, when it took place last year, took over – hence the name – five Oxford city centre venues, presenting over 20 local bands and musicians for 12 hours of music. In total, the event raised over £3,000 for Oxfam.
This year’s Takeover will happen in October, and the organisers hope to top last year’s total money raised. As well as the day-long event there will also be several warm-up events, including an all-dayer at The Swan in Wantage and the curating of a stage at Arcane Festival.
The Oxjam Oxford Takeover team are looking to recruit some volunteers to fill these roles:
- Marketing co-ordinator
- Production co-ordinator
- Fundraising co-ordinator
They hope to have the volunteers in place in order to begin planning for this year’s Takeover from April. Katie-Louise Herring, the manager of the event, says “being part of the Oxjam Oxford Takeover team is a great opportunity for anyone who has a passion for local music, Oxfam’s work and anyone who wants to gain more experience in fundraising, marketing, production and events.”
Here’s a video with some of last year’s Takeover team explaining what happened with the event in 2011:
