Scott ‘Wino’ Weinrich and Conny Ochs – doom metal at Truck Store, Oxford

Oxford is about to get a whole lot doomier…

On Friday 23 March, Scott ‘Wino’ Weinrich, doom metal pioneer and frontman of both The Obsessed and Saint Vitus, will be making a rare Oxford appearance at the Truck Store, along with German troubadour Conny Ochs, to promote their collaborative acoustic album Heavy Kingdom. ‘Wino’ was also a core member of über-metal supergroup Shrinebuilder, which also featured Dale Crover (the Melvins), Al Cisneros (Sleep) and Scott Kelly (Neurosis), and whose eponymous album was released in 2009. Conny Ochs is just a jolly good singer-songwriter with a damn fine voice. So, a match made in heaven, yeah?

It promises to be an evening of whisky-soaked blues from the hoarse-voiced duo, so head on down to the Truck Store to let off some post-work steam. The performance, which is in association with Future Noise Records and Exile on Mainstream Records, will kick off at about 6.30pm. To use the parlance of the genre, DOOM ON!

Here’s a little Heavy Kingdom for ya!
