The Reaper reach finals of national ‘Rock The House’ competition

A unique and, well, slightly bizarre combination of politics and music, the annual national ‘Rock The House’ competition was started up by Conservative MP for Hove and Portslade Mike Weatherley, to ‘celebrate the very best of up-and-coming unsigned British artists and the live music venues that support them’. Can’t argue with that aim.

Local metal band The Reaper – whose age range (11-14) belies some really rather impressive talent – have made it to the live final of Rock The House after being hand-picked by their local MP (you see, MPs from across the country were asked to nominate a band or musician for inclusion). That local MP is, of course, David ‘Dave’ Cameron!

Good luck to The Reaper. They’re in a shortlist of ten finalists in the ‘under 18′ category, and will compete in a battle of the bands-type event at Northampton Roadmenders on 14 May. If they win, all kinds of prizes are up for grabs, and they’ll get to hang out at the House of Commons on 30 May to receive their official handshakes and congratulations!
