Gigs of note for 11 June 2012-24 June 2012

On Thursday 14 June, some high quality fizzy indie-pop – with 60s-inspired tunes from The School, jittery pop energy from Tigercats and local support in the form of the rather moody and magnificent Dallas Don’t. It all takes place at the Bullingdon in Oxford. Find out more here: www.facebook.com/events/357095251017461

Lots going on over the weekend of Saturday 16 June and Sunday 17 June. For a start there’s the brilliant, and free, Riverside Festival in Charlbury – the annual celebration of all things local music, in a wonderful and relaxed setting (see riversidefestival.charlbury.com). In Cropredy on Saturday 16 June there’s the rather more ‘out there’ Tinderbox Festival of Noise, Improv and Experimental Musics (www.tinderboxfestival.co.uk), which promises to challenge and entertain. Finally, in the evening on Saturday 16 June there’s the latest ‘Upstairs in association with BBC Introducing in Oxford’ gig at the O2 Academy 2, Oxford, with an impressive and diverse selection of local talent that includes Richard Walters, Family Machine, Listing Ships, The Dreaming Spires and The Gullivers. More about that at www.o2academyoxford.co.uk/event/39238/upstairs-in-association-with-bbc-introducing-ft-ri-tickets

An interesting gig from quirky Oxford promoters PinDrop Promotions takes place on Monday 18 June, with Oxford ‘chillwave’ from Grudle Bay and one-man electronica acts ahoy in the form of Black Fantasy (one of Borderville) and After The Thought (a chap from Oxford’s Truck Store), all supporting Australian electronica producer Shoeb Ahmad. That’s all at The Cellar in Oxford. Find out more at www.cellaroxford.co.uk/event/pindrop-presents

For those of you in and around Didcot, a few interesting things at the Cornerstone Arts Centre: operatta The Parson’s Pirates on Wednesday 20 June, classical music from the Birmingham Conservatoire Choral Ensemble on Thursday 21 June, folky acoustic music from Adam Barnes, Holly Taymar and Christopher Bilton on Friday 22 June and an introduction to the oboe for 5-8 year olds as part of the ‘Cushion Concerts For Little Ones’ series on Sunday 24 June!
