MusicInOxford.co.uk's Gigs Of Note

Gigs of note for 9 July 2012-22 July 2012

MusicInOxford.co.uk run our own gigs from time to time, and we have one lined up for Friday 13 July. Despite one act dropping out recently – they were from outside Oxford; an Oxford band wouldn’t do that, would they? – we’re still very pleased and proud to present The Grinding Young, The Cooling Pearls and ToLiesel at The Wheatsheaf in Oxford. See you there, yeah?

The Bullingdon in Oxford presents its Americana Weekend on Friday 13 July, Saturday 14 July and Sunday 15 July. What does that mean? Well, there’s a gig there on each of those evenings, with Eve Selis Band on Friday, Alejandro Escovedo on Saturday and Dawes on Sunday. Get your laid-back California cool on and get along there, if that’s your bag.

A bit of a ‘woah, really?’ moment takes place on Friday 13 July (which seems to be a pretty popular night for musical events in Oxford, despite it being Friday The Thirteenth!): if you’re at the Jericho in Oxford that night you can see a performance by Charlotte Church. Yes; Charlotte Church, the Welsh pop singer who one might expect to appear at a more ‘concert’ venue than the ‘gig’ environs of the Jericho. Maybe she’s going back to her roots, or something. But anyway, if you’re going, give her a warm Oxford welcome.

A hugely popular fixture in Oxfordshire’s annual live music calendar is Truck festival, which takes place on Friday 20 July and Saturday 21 July. Tickets are still available, and the ever-growing line-up contains a huge number of big names including The Mystery Jets, The Temper Trap, Tim Minchim and British Sea Power, alongside a fantastic selection of Oxford-related bands and musicians like This Town Needs Guns, The Dreaming Spires, Gunning For Tamar, Black Hats, Flights Of Helios, and more, and more, and more…

If you can’t make it to Truck, or for some reason don’t want to go, there’s some alternative musical entertainment available on Friday 20 July. The Cellar in Oxford plays host to the odd-rockabilly-skiffle-magic of The Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band (whose last release came in the form of a wax cylinder…), along with DJ sets from the legendary Count Skylarkin’ and some cat by the name of Jason ‘The Cat’ King. We doubt that’s the same moustach-heavy dandy Jason King of 1970s television fame, but we can but hope!
