Frank Turner at the Olympics

Dive Dive at the Olympics opening ceremony

Nothing like a bit of journalistic hyperbole, is there? Okay, okay, so Dive Dive themselves weren’t quite kicking the Arctic Monkeys off the Olympian stage and performing themselves, but two of their members – Nigel Powell (drummist) and Tarrant Anderson (bassist) – featured in Frank Turner’s band, which was selected by Olympics opening ceremony creator Danny Boyle to play a warm-up set before it all kicked off on Friday night.

Can’t seem to embed the BBC iPlayer video on another website, but here’s a link to the whole opening ceremony countdown – the Frank Turner bit starts at around 1:42:30.

Nigel Powell and Tarrant Anderson are regularly joined by guitarist Ben Lloyd, and those three fellows along with Jamie Stuart are Dive Dive, one of Oxford’s favourite bands and now, by extension, they’ve just snagged around a billion extra fans (or however many people watched the Olympics opening ceremony)…

You’ve forgotten about Ben – he’s in Dive Dive and Frank’s band too.
