There’s a gig aimed squarely at fans of noise, complex math-rock and chuggy alterno-rock on Monday 3 September – promoters 100% Mosh are taking over the Wheatsheaf in Oxford to present Bloody Mammals, Without Maps and Masiro. They describe the acts as ‘for fans of Fugazi, Future Of The Left, Drive Like Jehu, At The Drive-In, Hot Snakes and constantly changing time signatures’. Nice!
It’s not a gig, but a Film Of Note is the LCD Soundsystem documentary Shut Up And Play The Hits, covering the band’s last ever gig, which is being shown at the Phoenix Picturehouse in Oxford on Tuesday 4 September. It’s part of the national premiere for the film, and includes a live Q&A with LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy afterwards, beamed directly from London.
Three showcases of excellent local talent on Friday 7 September: BG Records present hip-hop with Adrenelin, Society, CJ, Chukie and many more at The Net in Abingdon; All Tamara’s Parties present acoustic-y folky goodness with Tamara and a Martyr, Ben Walker, Florian Wolff and more at East Oxford Community Centre; and Daisy Rodgers Music Promotions present hip indie with Nairobi, Empty White Circles and Matt Midgley at the Port Mahon in Oxford.
Audioscope, the long-running promoters who raise money for Shelter, are launching a new compilation album called Music For A Good Home 2 with a gig at The Wheatsheaf, Oxford on Friday 14 September. The beautiful Kranky Records artists Felix will be joined by The Cellar Family, The Half Rabbits and Karhide, who all appear on the compilation along with 36 further bands and musicians including Ride, Beak>, Wire and Karma To Burn. The download-only compilation is released on 1 October, but a special limited edition CD sampler (with a download code for the full album) will be on sale at this gig. Tickets are only £5 and all of the profits are donated directly to Shelter.
Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
