The charity SANE, whose tagline ‘meeting the challenge of mental illness’ explains what they do pretty clearly, are running a ‘Black Dog Campaign’ to help raise awareness of their aims – the black dog being a potent metaphor for the spectre of depression.
Part of the campaign includes an audio gallery featuring contributions from artists who support SANE. Oxford’s punk stalwarts Headcount have their song ‘Black Dog Days’ included in the gallery, which can be found here.
‘Black Dog Days’, which features Marco Pirroni (who has worked with Adam and the Ants, Siouxsie and the Banshees and many more), will feature on the forthcoming Headcount album Lullabies For Dogs, which is complete and awaiting mastering and production. To help with the costs of this, Headcount are running a pledge scheme and inviting fans to donate some money towards the album’s final steps, in return for free download tracks, exclusive video, a copy of the album upon its release and “some bonus goodies”.
Pledges will be taken via the website of the band’s label, Malicious Damage. The pledge scheme isn’t yet open, but in the meantime keep an eye on Headcount’s Facebook page for news and updates.
Here are some rough mixes of tracks to be featured on Lullabies For Dogs…
