The Sea The Sea is a new Oxford band, formed earlier this year by guitarists David Freeman and Danny Crane-Brewer (formerly of Vixens) and vocalist Matthew Clarkson. The line-up was completed by drummer Simon Talbot and bassist Matteo Cocco. As they describe themselves, in somewhat florid language, “the band play dream-pop with influences reaching out, like throbbing tentacles, into expanses of post-punk, post-rock and baroque pop. There are textured guitars playing upbeat melodies, sincere vocals singing downbeat words, and rhythms that steer forcibly onwards past Sirens and serpents.”
The band will release a free single each month for the rest of this year, with each to be available to download or on limited edition, hand-numbered CDs, which can be got from the band at live shows. Each physical copy will also include a home-demo track, and a unique stencil design as part of the artwork.
The first of these singles is ‘The Strait, The Narrow’, which was recorded at Safehouse Studios by Kit Monteith of Trophy Wife and Tim Roberts, and mastered by Aaron Delgado of Kill Murray.
The first The Sea The Sea gig will take place on Friday 28 September at The Bullingdon in Oxford – they join a rather fine line-up that also includes Kill Murray, Poledo and Ivor Thomas.
