Gigs of note for 1 October 2012-14 October 2012

An interesting-sounding event is taking place on Tuesday 2 October at the Old Fire Station in Oxford. ‘A Vocal Explosion’, courtesy of Oxford Improvisers, is an exploration of the voice as used in improvised music. The event is being hosted and directed by vocalist Anne L Ryan.

Lovely music in a lovely setting on Thursday 4 October – Richard Walters, Adam Barnes and We Aeronauts are bringing their varying brands of delicated folk-tinged music to St Albans Church in East Oxford. Copies of Richard Walters’ latest album, Regret Less, will be available to buy at the gig.

Friday 5 October seems to be one of those ‘night of all gigs’ kind of dates, with a wide variety of gigs going on in Oxford. The O2 Academy plays host to both Kyla La Grange and Flux Pavillion, Oxford Town Hall has the legendary Acker Bilk, there’s a local line-up at the Wheatsheaf with Mark Bosley Band, Dead Girl Park and Beaver Fuel, another local line-up at Pegasus Theatre with Duotone and Welcome To Peepworld, and club nights stretching into the early hours at both The Cellar and O2 Academy. What’ll it be?

A fine selection of Oxfordshire hip-hop and beat-making takes place on Thursday 11 October at Fat Lil’s in Witney: local MC Theoretical has, for one of his regular gigs, lined up Tiger Mendoza, Half Decent and Silecta, three of the best the scene has to offer.

Saturday 13 October is yet another ‘night of all gigs': (deep breath) there’s Oxjam Oxford Takeover 2012 with gigs at many venues throughout Oxford, and performances from Fixers, Pet Moon and loads more; Julian Cope will be doing his thing at O2 Academy 2, Oxford; Why? will be doing their thing at the Bullingdon in Oxford; and there are also in-store performances, ceilidhs, theatre shows and club nights vying for your attention!

Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
