Folky good-blokes-from-Oxford Stornoway have announced two headline gigs back in the welcoming huggy embrace of their hometown. They will be playing at Oxford’s Town Hall for two nights running – 14 February 2013 (for the romantic types amongst you), and 15 February 2013 (for the embittered loners amongst you).
After a pretty full-on 2012, involving gigs all over the shop including some special ones at London’s Somerset House as well as the Wilderness and Apple Cart festivals, the band are working on a follow-up to their hugely well received debut album Beachcomber’s Windowsill. Frontman Brian Briggs also recently had the dubious honour of being the answer to a University Challenge question, and can presumably count Jeremy Paxman as a big fan of his band, right?
Tickets for the February 2013 gigs will be on sale from Friday 12 October via either Truck Store on Oxford’s Cowley Road, or through the alt-tickets.co.uk website.
Here’s ‘Fuel Up’, from Beachcomber’s Windowsill, as recorded a couple of years back for the 4AD Session recorded at The Rotunda in Oxford:
