“Oxford’s Festival of Sound Art and Experimental Music”, Audiograft – run by Oxford Brookes University’s Sonic Art Research Unit (SARU) – has just had a first batch of events, announced as part of the event in 2013.
The festival launches with a free event on 27 February at the Richard Hamilton Building at Oxford Brookes. This will include performances by Pierre Berthet, Ray Lee (most recently apparent in Oxford through the fantastic ‘Chorus’ installation in Oxford Castle as part of the Light Night event), Henrique Portovedo, Paul Dibley/Iain Harvie/Tim Howle/Brett Gordon and Felicity Ford.
As well as a couple more events lined up, Audiograft have secured a coup with a performance by Phill Niblock on 2 March at Modern Art Oxford. Niblock is a somewhat legendary explorer of minimal tones and drones, and his performance will be supported by Thomas Ankersmit, Ornis and Valerio Tricoli.
There are also exhibitions at a variety of locations in Oxford, including work by the incredibly well-respected German artist Rolf Julius whose work has previously been shown alongside that of John Cage and Nam June Paik.
Get on over to the Audiograft website for full details of the artists and musicians involved, as well as dates and prices for all of the events. It’s set to be a fascinating and fantastic few days of music and experience.
