Folk Weekend Oxford, a celebration of the local and national folk music scene that ran for the first time last April, has been shortlisted for the ‘People’s Choice’ award in the 2013 Epic Awards. The awards are designed to put ‘voluntary and amateur arts in the spotlight’, and Folk Arts Oxford, the people behind Folk Weekend Oxford, are now in the running for an award whose winner will be decided by public vote.
The Epic Awards are run by Voluntary Arts, the national development agency for arts participation. Read more about the awards here. The winner of the ‘People’s Choice’ award will receive free access to resources and help for those running arts and creative voluntary groups.

Last year’s Folk Weekend Oxford was a veritable takeover of Oxford, with musicians, dancers and artists taking part in all kinds of activities and concerts across several venues. The event will return on 19-21 April 2013 and the organisers promise that it will “once again see us infiltrating Oxford city centre to fill it with folk music, song, and a lot of dancing”.
