It’s been a while since The Cellar Family shared their particular brand of sinister weirdness with the world, but their frontman Jamie Harris hasn’t been lazing around. All Is Calm is a just-released four-track EP released under his solo alter ego Donkey The Jacket, following on from his first EP Family Favourites, vol. 1 which was out late last year.
Work your was past the sarcastic cheese of ‘Terrific Audience’ (sometimes it’s difficult to establish whether Harris is a terrific misanthrope or wishes us to join him in his deranged worldview) and you’ll find three great tracks. ‘Weather Man’, ‘We Scared The Horses’ and ‘Marjorie’ channel The Cellar Family’s knack for creating tiny scenarios that seem to carry significant backstory and context, and reflect the band’s spindly and aggressive guitar work with a sound that’s more Come On Pilgrim than Doolittle, if that makes sense.

The Cellar Family, by the way, are back soon and will play the Jericho in Oxford on 8 March, as support – along with Junkie Brush – at an EP launch gig for The Goggenheim.
