Interesting music in a bookshop on Tuesday 5 March – Albion Beatnik Bookstore in Oxford is hosting an evening of acoustic sets from Nairobi, RM Hubbert, Bethany Weimers and Marcus Corbett. It’s a rare chance to see some delicate music in a fitting, intimate atmosphere.
There’s a couple of good instore performances coming up at Truck Store in Oxford. On Friday 8 March at 5.00 pm you can check out melodic neo-grungers Stagecoach, and on Sunday 10 March at 4.00 pm there’s DB Band, featuring Mick Quinn of Supergrass and Paul Wilson of Shake Appeal. Both instores are free! So while you’re there, avail yourself of the facilities on offer and buy some records and a coffee.
On Friday 15 March there’s Huck and The Xander Band at The Bullingdon in Oxford. Huck, previously known as a solo performer as well as being part of Sextodecimo, Huck And The Handsome Fee and Tamara And The Martyrs, has been working on a concept album based around Alexander the Great. The gig launches an EP that marks the first part of the project, and also features support acts Flights Of Helios and The Keys.
A huge line-up on offer at The Oxford Blue in Oxford on Saturday 16 March. ‘Anthems For Chilomoni’ is a fund-raising event for a Malawi daycare centre, and will see performances from Dubwiser, Duchess, Nairobi, Tiger Mendoza, Death Of Hifi and many more. The whole thing will be hosted by Asher Dust. Good music, good cause!
Alternatively, also on Saturday 16 March, is a tip-top local showcase at O2 Academy 2 in Oxford. Gunning For Tamar lead the charge in advance of their latest EP ‘Camera Lucida’, and backing them up will be Phil McMinn (ex-Fell City Girl and The Winchell Riots) and Salvation Bill (ex-ute and The Old Grinding Young). Also in the line-up is the oddly-named Wot Gorilla? from Halifax.
Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
