Candy Says, the band formed by members of Little Fish, launch their single ‘Favourite Flavour’ with their first Oxford headline show on Tuesday 21 May. They’ll play in the warm and welcoming surroundings of St Barnabas Church in Oxford, and they’ll be supported by alt-folk troubadour Huck.
The latest in the increasingly, er, regular events from Irregular Folk is on Thursday 23 May – Jess Hall will be joined by Caitlin Park and Emma Gatrill, all in the luxurious environs of The Perch in Oxford. These gigs are curated with an exquisite eye for detail, so get down there to see what the increasing amount of buzz is all about.
More record launch action with an in-store from The Epstein on Friday 24 May. They’ll be at Truck Store in Oxford from 6.00 pm to play some songs from their soon-to-be-released new album, Murmurations.
The promoters at Gappy Tooth Industries always put together eclectic line-ups for their gigs, and so it will be for their Saturday 25 May show. Get down to the Wheatsheaf in Oxford and check out the complex math rock of Masiro, the Hawkwind-goes-Krautrock electro rock of Parastatic (coming all the way from Newcastle!) and the odd psychedelic folk of Sweet Bread.
Twitterfolk amongst you may be aware of hrtbps, an artful trickster who is skilled at winding up those who deserve it on the internet. Get along to the Wheatsheaf in Oxford on Wednesday 29 May and you can check out his band, Internet Forever. They’ll be playing along with Her Parents, Stairs To Korea and Beta Blocker And The Body Clock in a pretty flippin’ grand-quality line-up.
It’s not a gig, but never mind; a movie of note is Made Of Stone, Shane Meadows’ documentary about the Stone Roses reunion in 2012, that has a special screening at Oxford’s Phoenix Picturehouse on Thursday 30 May. The screening is followed by a Q&A with the director, beamed live’n’direct from Manchester, where the Roses themselves will be getting involved (presumably by shouting ‘amateur!!’ at the film crew whilst strutting around like flared-trouser wearing monkeys).
Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
