Coolness abounds with two gig options for Friday 14 June: at O2 Academy 2 in Oxford you can check out Trophy Wife along with their Blessing Force cohorts Motherhood; and at The Jericho Tavern, also in Oxford, point your ears towards the Original Rabbit Foot Spasm Band, who will be supported by Vienna Ditto. Cool. Cool. Double cool!
An interesting thing is taking place on Saturday 15 June – ‘No Reading Alone’ is an event mixing poetry, fiction and non-fiction writing, comedy and music. Taking place at St Michael at the North Gate in Oxford, it includes music and chat from Chris T-T along with poet/writer Richard T O’Brien and University of Sussex professor of media & communications (as well as the presenter of Radio 4’s Noise series).
Artful experimento-indie-rock-pop types Spring Offensive are taking over St John the Evangelist Church in Oxford on Saturday 15 June to play their only local headline show of the summer. They’re marking the event in style, with not only a fine line-up of talent including themselves (duh), Pixel Fix, Salvation Bill and Adam Barnes, but also a BBQ!
Sleaze-tinged rockabilly mashup-a-plenty with The Severed Limb at The Cellar, Oxford, on Friday 21 June: they’re playing the regular Big Ten Inch Club, along with Johnny Louche (who runs the regular Hipshakin’ night at the Library in Oxford) and Count Skylarkin’.
Another in the regular series of local showcases from Upstairs in association with BBC Introducing in Oxford takes place on Saturday 22 June – Empty White Circles, Co-pilgrim, The August List and Joshua Gilbert will all be supporting ahab (lower case ‘a’ is their pretension, not ours…) at the O2 Academy 2 in Oxford. Sweet!
Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
