MusicInOxford.co.uk's Gigs Of Note

Gigs of note for 17 June 2013-30 June 2013

Exciting news for ambient electronica-type fans as Ulrich Schnauss plays The Bullingdon in Oxford on Friday 21 June. The well-respected musician will be supported by Oxford’s very own one-man electronic experimenter, After The Thought.

Sleaze-tinged rockabilly mashup-a-plenty with The Severed Limb at The Cellar, Oxford, on Friday 21 June: they’re playing the regular Big Ten Inch Club, along with Johnny Louche (who runs the regular Hipshakin’ night at the Library in Oxford) and Count Skylarkin’.

Another in the regular series of local showcases from Upstairs in association with BBC Introducing in Oxford takes place on Saturday 22 June – Empty White Circles, Co-pilgrim, The August List and Joshua Gilbert will all be supporting ahab (lower case ‘a’ is their pretension, not ours…) at the O2 Academy 2 in Oxford. Sweet!

Help folk-Americana types The Epstein launch their latest album Murmurations at their gig at St Albans Church in Oxford on Thursday 27 June. They’ll be supported by The Dreaming Spires and Jordan O’Shea.

Alternatively, also on Thursday 27 June, the magical Deerhoof will play at The Cellar in Oxford at the latest Zenshit gig/club night. As well as support from Blessing Force types Big Cosmos and Trust Fund, there will also be DJ sets (including Coloureds and Chad Valley on the decks) until 3.00 am.

At the Bullingdon in Oxford on Friday 28 June, indie-popsters Alphabet Backwards play their first Oxford gig in quite some time. The night, run by the always-excellent Daisy Rodgers Music Promotion, will also include sets from Perfect Life (from Reading) and The Kites.

Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.

Lots of good stuff there, but if I may I’d like to make one more suggestion: Go On, Do It, Jump are launchign thweir EP on 29/6/13 at the Wheatsheaf, with support from Swindon’s Super Squarecloud and Red Panda (featuring the one and only S*P*U*N*K*L*E). Why not do what we’re doing and go to Daisy Rogers and this, to make a weekend out of it?
