Help folk-Americana types The Epstein launch their latest album Murmurations at their gig at St Albans Church in Oxford on Thursday 27 June. They’ll be supported by The Dreaming Spires and Jordan O’Shea.
Alternatively, also on Thursday 27 June, the magical Deerhoof will play at The Cellar in Oxford at the latest Zenshit gig/club night. As well as support from Blessing Force types Big Cosmos and Trust Fund, there will also be DJ sets (including Coloureds and Chad Valley on the decks) until 3.00 am.
At the Bullingdon in Oxford on Friday 28 June, indie-popsters Alphabet Backwards play their first Oxford gig in quite some time. The night, run by the always-excellent Daisy Rodgers Music Promotion, will also include sets from Perfect Life (from Reading) and The Kites.
The Gappy Tooth Industries gig for this month, on Saturday 29 June at The Wheatsheaf in Oxford, is a typically diverse line-up. Go On, Do It, Jump will provide the ‘muscular pop'; The Racket the ‘filthy guitar music’ and Red Panda the ‘warm, dubby semi-improvised instrumentals’. The gig also marks the release of the new EP from Go On, Do It, Jump.
Chunky metal-tinged slabs of noise on Wednesday 3 July at the Cellar in Oxford. Locals Mother Corona and Komrad do tripped-out psychedelic rock and weirdsville noise rock, and Kobosh – all the way from New Zealand – describe themselves as ‘dynamic alternative rock with elements of klezmer and a sprinkling of progressive’. Cor.
Cornbury Festival takes place all over the weekend of Friday 5 July to Sunday 7 July at Great Tew Park. Mainstream in nature it may be, but it still has a pretty impressive line-up including Wilko Johnson, Van Morrison, Bellowhead and The Proclaimers!
If that’s not up your street, how about Funeral For A Friend at O2 Academy 2 in Oxford on Friday 5 July? The gig, rescheduled from March, will see the Welsh post-hardcore types supported by Marmozets and Stem.
