Oxford rapper ShaoDow (who used to be Mr ShaoDow, didn’t he…?) knows a thing or two about the DIY attitude to music making and promotion. A true self-starter, he’s travelled the length and breadth of the country, playing shows and selling albums – so far, he’s racked up over 11,000 CD sales completely on his own, which is a somewhat breathtaking statistic.
It’s pretty cool, then, that he’s decided to share some of the knowledge and experience he’s built up. He’s just released the first video in a new series, The DiY Gang Guide, described as “a how-to discussion helping you along your path to independence in the UK music industry.
The video covers that perennial question, ‘How Do I Get My Music Out There?’. More episodes will, hopefully, follow soon.
Here’s ShaoDow’s website. He plays O2 Academy 2, Oxford, on Saturday 13 July, where he’s teaming up with likeminded soul Zuby to play a show that also features Adian Coker, Death Of Hifi, Yungstar and a DJ set from BG Records. More about that here.
