Here we go again, rumbling and tumbling through a selection of tracks recently submitted to the Music In Oxford SoundCloud group. What a convenient and succinct way of hearing what’s going on out there in the world of new Oxfordcentric music.
Matt Carter: ‘From The Payphone Stall’
Just missing out on inclusion in the last roundup, you may know Matt from playing with Maps. Here he’s a lilting folk troubadour with a stripped down, elegant backing which serves the track well.
Jack Stanton: ‘Locker’
Sleazy, sinister synth-pop with 808s and glitched-up vocals, and a definite nod to bands like Depeche Mode. This’ll do nicely.
Crayon: ‘Nothing’s Where It Should Be’
The kind of summery indie-pop that wouldn’t be out of place early evening at a sunny festival. A funky young Bluetones, maybe.
Lee Christian: ‘A New Way’
I hear that Oxford heroes Smilex are recording a new album. To tide you over until that comes out, here’s lead singer Lee channeling Prince and giving his take 90s R’n’B.
Spinner Fall: ‘Previous’
Riffs! WE HAVE RIFFS!!!! Punky, spiky goodness. Haven’t seen them live yet, but if they can deliver the goods, they may just be bloody ace.
Peter Doonack: ‘Fusion (Original)’
Peter’s a pretty regular contributor to the group, and frequently posts his house/disco tracks. Being drawn more to the slightly darker side of electro and dance as I am, this deep house track is probably my favourite of his so far.
