Win two tickets to Piney Gir at Ashmolean LiveFriday

The next LiveFriday event at Oxford’s Ashmolean takes place on Friday 30 August. LiveWhat, you may ask? The organisers explain:

“On the last Friday of each month, the Museum will open its doors from 7.00 pm–10.30 pm, giving visitors the opportunity to see the collections and major exhibitions after hours. Interactive events including theatrical performances, creative workshops and lively talks will be on offer, with drinks and tapas in the rooftop Dining Room on Level 4 and a bar in the vaulted café on the Lower Ground Level.”

LiveFriday on 30 August has a ‘Dress-Up’ theme, curated in association with Oxford Fashion Week and based around fashion, and will include live photo shoots, runway shows, and something called ‘express fashion sketching’. Cor!

From 10.15 pm on 30 August and as part of the event, the Ashmolean vaulted café will host a special gig featuring sassy indie-pop type Piney Gir. Her first band, a synth-pop duo (Vic Twenty), released a single on Mute and toured Europe with Erasure. After seeing the world, she realised the road was in her blood, and music was her sense of purpose, so she released her debut album Peakahokahoo on Truck Records in 2004. This was followed by albums with all-girl, art-rock, cult-classic group The Schla La Las, her solo Hold Yer Horses, 2009’s The Yearling and then the critically acclaimed Jesus Wept a year later as The Piney Gir Country Roadshow. Her new solo album Geronimo! was released in October 2011 on Damaged Goods and in October 2012 in the USA on Highline Records.
