Live From The Pantheon is a joint hip-hop project between MC Rawz (from local hip-hop/grime collective G-Block) and Nemrot (MC and producer with Flooded Hallways). Nemrot’s exceptional, individually-minded production utilises diverse and inventive samples, creating a perfect soundscape over which both MCs spit their clever lyrics.
Rawz, with his gruff lyrical poetics, gels perfectly with Nemrot’s unhinged and off-kilter whine, creating hip-hop that is very much unique and fully-fledged. This many-splendoured trip, a testament to fertile imaginations, is a beats and breaks symphony that’s pitched somewhere between Ennio Morricone, El-P, The Avalanches and Jay Dilla. Although it could do with a little more variation in tempo, this album is a masterful, boombap beat odyssey, with clever wordplay from both MCs. UK hip-hop, on this evidence, is in safe hands.
