Smilex: La Petite Mort

Cheeky and slightly unhinged rock’n’roll funsters Smilex have been around for a long time, and have stayed pretty consistently true to their choppy, noisy, shrieky-yet-melodic form of guitarrockismo.

Their new album La Petite Mort came out just a couple of weeks ago – a long, long time since their previous record. Whilst frontman Lee Christian isn’t as Oxford-based as he once was, Smilex will forever be an Oxford band. The album is a ten-tracker that’s available through iTunes here, and Quickfix Recordings – for that is their label – are selling CD copies at their online store.

Unsurprisingly, every single track is marked with an ‘Explicit’ tag in iTunes: what potty-mouthed folk Smilex are.

Smilex have been trailing the album’s release with a series of ads on their YouTube channel. Here’s the most recent of these, featuring the song ‘Please Do Not Feed The Drug Child’, which is in fact a surprisingly slow-paced number with more than a hint of Slash-style guitar wailing on display:

hahaha! sorry to disappoint but some of the lyrics are just ‘adult content’ rather than swearing! i think someone was just being safe so as not to be sorry but theres’ actually less swearing on this record than most would imagine and some songs that are completely innocent! funny tho! :-)x
