‘You Don’t Know Me’ is the debut single from Scott Bowley, who some of you may remember from a few years ago as a member of the band Red Valve.
The single, with second track ‘The Terrace’, is available to pre-order on Bandcamp here as a £1 download or, more excitingly, as a £7 VHS video cassette!
Bowley is currently studying Studio Composition at Goldsmiths, and also runs a ‘quadrophonic techno night’ in Peckham as well as presenting an electronic music podcast. His commentary on the video for ‘You Don’t Know Me':
“The track’s really about first impressions and how often people think they have someone completely figured out, 5 seconds after coming into contact with them. With the video, I wanted to capture a series of first impressions, so went to Oxford Circus in the heart of London and I made it as obvious as I could that I was looking at people – filming with a friend’s big SLR camera held out in front of me. It conjures up all kinds of questions about privacy. I was honestly expecting to get a load of abuse, but hardly anyone even acknowledged me, although you can see some people giving me looks. Once Google Glass and things like that take off, we’ll all be able to easily document every part of our lives, whether that’s a good thing or not.”
