MusicInOxford.co.uk's Gigs Of Note

Gigs of note for 13 October 2014–26 October 2014

Alexis Taylor (Wednesday 15 October @ The Bullingdon, Oxford): Rescheduled from earlier in the year, a solo show from the Hot Chip frontman. Expect cheeky electronica-esque pop music.

The Orb (Thursday 16 October @ O2 Academy 2, Oxford): Dig out your old-school glowsticks and ‘herbal’ ciggies for some classical ambient techno. The Orb are celebrating the 25-ish years that’ve passed since 1988’s frenzy of acid house.

Eagulls / Bad Breeding / Cassels (Saturday 18 October @ The Jericho Tavern, Oxford): Some cutting-edge new music here with three samples of what’s hip and what’s new in noisy independent music.

Oxjam Oxford Takeover 2014 (Saturday 18 October @ Various venues, Oxford): Oxjam Oxford are doing their thing again this year, taking over five venues for a day of local music in the city centre, with – hopefully – lots of money being raised for Oxfam along the way.

Young Knives / Poledo / Be Good (Saturday 25 October @ Modern Art Oxford, Oxford): A cracking line-up for this Blessing Force-curated night of music in an art gallery. Weirdo pop from Young Knives, grunge-esque noise from Poledo and echoey sleepy-time songs from Be Good.

Autumn Jamboree (Saturday 25 October @ The Jericho Tavern, Oxford): The Oxford Mail have put together a gig with some of their favourite Oxford-related acts – The Dreaming Spires, The Knights Of Mentis and Oli Steadman (of Stornoway and Count Drachma).

Mendoza + Griffiths / Motion Static / Puppet Mechanic (Saturday 25 October @ The Wheatsheaf, Oxford): Gappy Tooth do their ‘line-up mix-up’ approach to gigs yet again; Tiger Mendoza and David Griffiths will play tracks from their new EP, London’s Motion Static will do dubstep-influenced guitar music, and Puppet Mechanic will do well-turned-out classic indie pop.

Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
