What comes around goes around, and it’s a funny old world when bands like Foals seem to have looked to the most mainstream pop of the 1980s (Tears For Fears, Level 42, a smattering of Paul Simon’s Graceland) for inspiration – and got away with it.
Yew, featuring a member of Minor Coles who may be a memory from a couple of years back, are coming from a similar place. Here’s their first EP, brimming with high-gloss, reverb-heavy production on its two core tracks ‘Glass’ and ‘The Floor’. Those two spritely, indie-pop-goes-John-Hughes songs are backed up by an After The Thought remix, and a demo of ‘Don’t Ask’ – the latter all the better for a slightly emptier, looser feel.
