Video from the recent ‘RAP at the Ashmolean’ event

Here’s a nice thing, a video compiling some of the performances and lyrics put together at the recent RAP (aka ‘Rhythm And Poetry’) event that was staged recently at the Ashmolean in Oxford.

BG Records, the Young Women’s Music Project, Artisjustaword and the Ashmolean got together to arrange the event, which invited people of all ages to create and perform lyrics inspired by the museum surroundings. As Oxford rapper N-zyme put it: “Performing in the Ashmolean on a busy Saturday reminded me of a flashmob almost, the extrovert leapt out of me, the adrenaline coursed through my veins as I looked each gobsmacked audience member in the eye, my brain ticking over trying to weave the mish-mash of inspiration around me with a thin string of lyrics whilst trying my hardest to stay coherent. The acceptance of the urban poetry by the mystified gawkers is something I will always treasure and remember and take with me the next time I perform.”

Inspiring, and well worth a watch:
