Event Navigation
ZRI are named after the Red Hedgehog Tavern, Zum Roten Igel, where Johannes Brahms drank, smoked, and listened to gypsy music. ZRI reinterpret Brahms’s Clarinet Quintet, replacing Brahms’s original instrumentation with clarinet, violin, cello, santouri and accordion.
Intertwining the Quintet with sweet and gritty traditional dances from the Carpathian mountains, ZRI create a vibrant and unique fusion of musical styles that often has the audience dancing in the aisles. For all interested in folk, gypsy, or classical music, this concert promises to be an unmissable event.
“ZRI play with consummate virtuosity, magic and passion. The emotional charge of Brahms illuminated by the gypsy spirit is a great combination!” – Royal Albert Hall Café Ignite Series
