Chunky metal-tinged slabs of noise on Wednesday 3 July at the Cellar in Oxford. Locals Mother Corona and Komrad do tripped-out psychedelic rock and weirdsville noise rock, and Kobosh – all the way from New Zealand – describe themselves as ‘dynamic alternative rock with elements of klezmer and a sprinkling of progressive’. Cornbury Festival takes place all over the weekend of Friday 5 July to Sunday 7 July at Great Tew Park. Mainstream in nature it may be, but it still has a pretty impressive line-up including Wilko Johnson, Van Morrison, Bellowhead and The Proclaimers!
If that’s not up your street, how about Funeral For A Friend at O2 Academy 2 in Oxford on Friday 5 July? The gig, rescheduled from March, will see the Welsh post-hardcore types supported by Marmozets and Stem.

Saturday night is Excellent Local Music night on Saturday 13 July – firstly with a BG Records-curated Upstairs in association with BBC Introducing in Oxford night at O2 Academy 2, Oxford, with Adian Coker and local acts ShaoDow & Zuby, Death Of Hifi and Yungstar…
…and secondly, also on Saturday 13 July, the next Irregular Folk ‘Summer Sessions’ event at the delightful Perch in Oxford. The May Birds, We Aeronauts and Ballina Whalers will be bringing the musical pleasantries in a lovely setting, and if enough people sign up for it, the organisers are setting up a boat trip to the gig as well!
Bodfest is nothing to do with the odd yellow-clothed cartoon character of the ’70s, but instead it’s the name of a one-day festival in Bodicote, taking place on Saturday 13 July. No idea what Bodicote is like?
