PRM’s Special Talk: Pigeon Whistles @ Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford

Saturday 2 November 2013, 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

Nathaniel MannNathaniel Mann is Pitt Rivers Museum & OCM’s Embedded Artist in Residence. Whilst spending time at the Museum his attention was drawn by the collection of Chinese pigeon whistles. These small flutes are borne on the birds’ tails during flight, creating haunting tones, which trace across the sky. What followed was a six-month odyssey into the world of UK pigeon fanciers and an eventual musical collaboration with ‘Pigeon Pete’ Petravicius and his flock of Birmingham Roller pigeons.

Nathaniel & Pigeon Pete are wonderful characters, full of charisma and are guaranteed to make you think again about the humble pigeon. They will present their Pigeon Whistles project and explain their research through stories, film and song.
