Cheeky and slightly unhinged rock’n’roll funsters Smilex have been around for a long time, and have stayed pretty consistently true to their choppy, noisy, shrieky-yet-melodic form of guitarrockismo.
Their new album La Petite Mort came out just a couple of weeks ago – a long, long time since their previous record. Whilst frontman Lee Christian isn’t as Oxford-based as he once was, Smilex will forever be an Oxford band. The album is a ten-tracker that’s available through iTunes here, and Quickfix Recordings – for that is their label – are selling CD copies at their online store.

Smilex have been trailing the album’s release with a series of ads on their YouTube channel. Here’s the most recent of these, featuring the song ‘Please Do Not Feed The Drug Child’, which is in fact a surprisingly slow-paced number with more than a hint of Slash-style guitar wailing on display:
