Was it really 40 years ago? 1974 was when the very first full band played in the Cellar – it was of course called The Corn Dolly at the time. Before this, pubs could only have duos playing, due to licensing restrictions. That band was Steamroller. The then Corn Dolly manager Jim Murray wanted to improve his Sunday night takings and so acquired the necessary license to have a full band. The night was a huge success, and this set the stage for the pub to become one of the major live music venues in Oxfordshire, as it still is today.
