The Mad Hatter on Iffley Road in Oxford don’t often host live music, but promoters Catweazle are putting on a gig there on Wednesday 9 April. It’s a strong line up, with The Epstein supported by Art Theefe and Tamara And The Martyrs.
The inventive and productive pop style of Candy Says will be on display on Thursday 10 April, as they launch their album Not Kings at Holywell Music Room in Oxford. They’re supported by Chrysta Bell, an American singer who has previously with David Lynch!
On Saturday 12 April there’ll be a lot of fun and enjoyment to be had at The Old Museum, in Oxford Town Hall. Super-inventive one-man-band Ichi will be playing anything that comes to hand (including, hopefully, his instrumentation appearing from a pair of stilts), along with Bird Radio, who loops found-at-the-point-of-playing sounds to create folky electronica.
Celebrate 40 years of music at The Cellar (and, as it was known before, The Corn Dolly) in Oxford, with a special gig on Sunday 13 April. After playing the venue back in 1974 (!), blues rockers Steamroller will be back to do their thing a mere four decades later…
Pindrop Performances always put on interesting gigs, and they have a goodie lined up for Wednesday 16 April. Acoustic singer-songwriter Owen Tromans will be playing songs from his recent album Golden Margins, and in support there will be David Griffiths – presenting pieces from his recently-released book and CD Sinister A – and two ‘super folk pop acts’, Luckyfinger and James Summerfield. It’s all a-happening in the delightful little Albion Beatnik Bookstore in Oxford.
More good stuff from Pindrop Performances on Friday 18 April. New Yorker Thomas Truax has played in Oxford a lot before, and he’s very welcome to return with a gig at The Art Bar in Oxford. Hopefully he’ll bring along a selection of his weird and wonderful instruments! Good Oxford supports, too, with The August List and Huck doing their thing.
Truck Store on Oxford’s Cowley Road celebrate Record Store Day 2014 on Saturday 19 April with not only a billion good records to buy, but live music from 2.00 pm, including Dubwiser, We Aeronauts, The Dreaming Spires and a special set from Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly.
Round off Saturday 19 April with the ear-rinsing noise of Undersmile, who play The Cellar in Oxford, along with God Speed, Crows’ Reign and Girlpower. Several shades of metallic mayhem on offer; all of ’em worth your (ear-plugged) attention.
Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
