Yannis Philippakis (DJ set) / ODC Drumline / Big Tropics (Thursday 30 October @ Modern Art Oxford, Oxford): Another Blessing Force shindig at the art gallery; this one’s likely to be packed as Foals frontman will be spinning the toons, along with sets from drum troupe ODC Drumline and cheeky sun-pop band Big Tropics.
Orlando Gough: ‘Breathe’ (Saturday 1 November @ The North Wall, Oxford): Musical theatre that explores “the complex, fundamental process of breathing through the lenses of science, medicine, and literature”. Sounds strange and fascinating!
Maiians ‘Tokyo’ EP launch / Kid Kin (Saturday 1 November @ Modern Art Oxford, Oxford): More music in an art gallery, with techno-done-analogue from Maiians, launching their new EP, and artfully constructed loops’n’beats from electronica whizzkid Kid Kin. Whizzkid Kin.
Stornoway (Wednesday 5 November @ Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford): The first of two very special hometown shows for Stornoway – the second being later in November; this one was added after it sold out very quickly indeed. Continuing a sly ascent to being one in the long line of ‘bands from Oxford that make in big’, Stornoway should be warmly received at this show.
AUDIOSCOPE14 (Saturday 8 November @ The Jericho Tavern, Oxford): Gig of the year, for sure! This year’s AUDIOSCOPE festival is jam-packed with outstanding stuff – from the super-influential Silver Apples, to the super-popular Public Service Broadcasting, with all kinds of super stuff in between including The Telescopes, The Neon Violets, Kid Kin and Matt Elliott. And all raising money for Shelter. And sold out weeks in advance, too!
Full details of these and loads more gigs can be found in the events calendar.
