‘Wet Sounds’ in Oxford during February

The superbly, supremely, excellently named Wet Sounds – as they put it, an ‘underwater sound art gallery’ – splashes Oxfordwards in February. The ‘deep listening experience’ is a tour of swimming pools (yes, really), presenting sounds through the medium of water. Gnarly!

From their website: “Wet Sounds effectively creates three sound spaces in the physical space of the swimming pool. One inside the water, one outside the water and one a merger of the two as the listener floats on the surface of the water. These three distinct sound spaces are chosen by the listeners as they move in and out of the water. The three sound spaces are used to convey parallel narratives, musical and literal.”

What they’re bringing to Oxford are two events on 12 and 13 February. On Saturday 12 February at 4.40 pm there’s a talk by Joel Cahen, the creator of the project, at Modern Art Oxford, followed by a listening of his A History Of Sound Art: “an engaging sound collage presenting an unique historical documentation of Sound Art from the early 20th century to the present day, the composition weaves through different sound works throughout the century with narratives and ideas from some of the prominent artists in the field.” On Sunday 13 February, pop your bathers on and get down to Temple Cowley Pools in Oxford for 4.40 pm. For the regular price of pool admission, you can experience Wet Sounds yourself!

We love this kind of thing at MusicInOxford.co.uk. Splish, splash, etc!
