Bye bye to Huck and the Handsome Fee, who have unfortunately announced that they are no more.
Straight from the Huck-shaped horse’s mouth, here’s a statement from bandchap Huck about why they’ve made the decision to call it a day. Sad times, indeed:
“Due to a combination of logistical impracticalities and precocious personalities, Huck and the Handsome Fee will disband in March. We had a great year in Oxford and a mind-blowing few weeks in the States and will always remember those times with fondness and gratitude.
“Matt, Tommy and I will be continuing as a (currently nameless) three-piece, while Tamara will be fronting her new band Mara with Tommy and me backing her alongside Arthur Young and Nizou Ben Ayed. Fee material will be divided up and reworked as and when we feel it’s right/not boring. In the meantime we will be playing our final show supporting the sensational Kill It Kid at The Jericho Tavern on Monday the 28th of February.
“Thanks to musicinoxford.co.uk and the Oxon scene for almost unanimous support, and to our indispensable allies Jimmy Hetherington, Martin Newton, Henry Stead, Borderville and Undersmile.
Avanti!
Huck”
We’re sad to see them go, are you? Here’s a brief round-up of some of the things we’ve said about them in the past…
- “Tamara Parsons-Baker’s vocals really shine in this unabashed 50s throwback”… Riverside Festival, Mill Field, Charlbury, 19/6/2010
- “The songs are compelling, and reports of the live show oscillate between the approving and the rapturous”… Huck and the Handsome Fee: demo
- “Huck and the Handsome Fee have just jetted off on a six-week tour of America”… Oxford bands storming America
A doff of our collective cap in their direction, and we look forward to seeing and hearing what comes next. By way of historical record, here’s the Huck and the Handsome Fee website.
