There were worries that planned roadworks on Iffley Road could mean that Cowley Road couldn’t be closed, as normal, for this year’s Cowley Road Carnival. Well – as Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth would say – good news, everyone! Oxfordshire County Council have just confirmed that the road can be closed, meaning that the Carnival and all of its associated street vendors, musical and artistic shenanigans, and general good-time vibe, can take place as normal. This is the tenth year that the Carnival has been staged.
As last year, the Carnival will be augmented by Fiesta in the Park and a mini-festival in South Park, which should present a wide variety of local music and entertainment. Line-ups are yet to be announced, but if it’s anything like last year’s event, it’ll be a blast.
Cowley Road Carnival will take place along Cowley Road on Sunday 3 July, from 10.00 am until 6.00 pm, and in South Park from midday until 8.00 pm. Fiesta in the Park will be on Saturday 2 July. The organisers are looking for anyone and everyone to get involved in a number of ways – as volunteers, sponsors, stall holders or by making donations – and have launched a fund-raising initiative to raise the £15,000 needed to cover the event’s costs.
