Drunkenstein were very good last night, & The Follys were ace, I’m a convert.

The other 2 acts were rock covers bands. Dirty Deeds did a pretty decent job, but rock covers bands wasn;t what I was in the mood for last night, so I sat in the garden & got Mackinnon drunk – why not go to his afternoon gig & see if he looks a little delicate?

Anyway, an excellent start to the fest, it’s a lovely little pub & the beer is good.

Seconded. The Follys were an inspired choice for the beginning of the festival- summery, loads of good tunes, tight and Trev was in excellent voice. Well done all round.

The covers bands were fine- I think its important at a festival like this to balance the ticket, and keep the locals from being too weirded out. Liked ‘Tie Your Mother Down’ but I’d ve preferred ‘Jigsaw Falling Into place’ to ‘Creep’.

I was a bit too drunkensteined to appreciate Drunkenstein at the end of the evening, but Tim’s drumming in particular is always a joy. Beer drinkers: get yourself a pint of Morrisey Fox Blonde before I slurp it all.

Drunkenstein’s set was certainly the most entertaining I’ve seen from them, and that new song is just silly!

just wanted to say well dne to phil and all who made the hannyfest happen! smilex had great fun and i enjoyed phill garvey, the mark bosley power trio and mary’s garden had come on so much since last time i caught them! great little festival! :-)
i agree with colin tho i did not see said band – sometimes covers can create a nice spread and balance to a bill! (not a shameless plug for this friday at the wheatsheaf at all! in fact i am still waiting for a bit of news to pop up on this very site about the wonderful event i and several other local musicians headlined in liverpool to pay tribute to george harrison! maybve i should leave an add on evry topic on here?! )

I’ve no problems with cover bands – hell, I was in one for over a decade (altho we were relatively creative, & rarely played our covers in any way that would please the orginal writers & performers!) – but I just wasn’t in the mood for one on Friday. It was a good booking policy, I’ll grant you: ease the uninitiated in gently!

I think it was a great balance of bands throughout, the covers bands were great in their way, especially the one on before Drunkenstein with the BFG on guitar – an elderly gentleman who looked totally disinterested but played like a demon.

I was blown away by the response to Drunkenstein. We were only too aware that it could have gone horribly wrong putting us on a bill like that, but the locals and Oxford faithful really seemed to enjoy it. Was certainly the most comedy gig we’ve done. Lots of appreciative folks to chat to afterwads, which was nice too.

I can’t praise Phil enough for the effort and work he put in to organising the whole thing. I doubt the man sleeps – I heard him mentioning he was looking for a floor to crash on for the night! But it was great to bump into him milling around the pub looking slightly on edge but ecstatic. Well done Phil!
