Jazz at the DoM is a brand new, twice-monthly event at the Duke Of Monmouth, 260 Abingdon Road, Oxford. Here’s what they say: “Jazz at the DoM is devoted to hosting performances by professional and semi-professional Oxfordshire based jazz musicians and jazz ensembles. We are a self-funding, not-for-profit organisation, paying musicians from door take and ploughing a small share of ticket income back into the club to pay for marketing, promotion and the administration.”
The organisers have already lined up a series of events, which will occur on the first and third Friday of each month:
- 3 June: Rob Terry Trio
- 17 June: Nick Blake Quintet
- 1 July: Theo Jackson Quartet
- 15 July: Oxford Jazz Quintet
- 5 August: Peter Oxley Trio
- 12 August: Lizzie Newbury Quintet with Ben Cummings
(It seems that jazz outfits favour including the number of members they have in their name…)
Music at each event runs in two sets between 8.30 pm until 11.00 pm. It all sounds like a rather nice environment, too, with waitress-served food available throughout the night! You can even book ahead to make sure of a table for your preferred evening.
